Oregon Travel Diary by Andy Hayes

Oregon’s unravels some of the world’s most vivid landscapes and travel attractions. If you are someone like me, it wouldn’t take much getting inspired for setting off into Oregon. Looking at where to start off? Portland fits the bill perfectly.

Portland’s majestic charm caters to every traveler type. It can have a family out on a sortie relish a mixed lineup of science parks, zoos, water and amusement parks, and more. And the fun is much more if it were a collegiate group or a bunch of freewheelers wishing that heads off into Portland. Surely, one of the unmissables of Oregon has to be the town’s standout beer culture.

Round-the-year beer fests make Portland all fun and games. Any time of the year is good for bellying up. It all sets off in February when ‘Zwickelmania’ kicks in a tasting frenzy across Oregon. This is when breweries across the state open up to visitors for one of the most exotic food and wine tasting sprees that happen around the world. It could also be your best bet for catching up-close some of the world’s most famed breweries.

The action then moves over to Oregon Convention Center, which hosts the Spring Beer and Wine Festival between March and April. The center buzzes with chefs and wine experts from around the area rolling out the best of wine-food pairings, which includes everything from classic vintage to more modern flavors.

If you devour your brew best with music, head off to the Wonder Ballroom for the annual Malt Ball weekend. The place brings together the very best of local music and brews. This is one weekend to unwind after a soaked up week of activity.

Come June, and the beer mania goes all the more ‘crafty’. Craft beer takes center stage at the Portland Beer Week held at Central Eastside. Don’t get caught up by ‘the week’; celebrations are in full swing for a good 11 days. From fresh root beer to reviving rye beers, the place sizzles with local musicians, bands, and events. The exotic beers on display are archetypal of the best of their kind.
